Icelandic Birds - Oystercatcher
The oystercatcher is among the largest wading birds in Iceland. It is a migratory bird that arrives early in spring, around mid-March, and then heads for more southerly parts at the beginning of August, staying mainly in the British Isles and northern Europe. Although the oystercatcher is counted as a migratory bird, a few thousand birds stay here all year round, mostly in the western part of the country.
