Icelandic Birds - Puffin
The puffin belongs to the auk family and is one of the most common migratory birds in Iceland. It stays here from April until September and lays its eggs in early June. When its stay is over it heads out to sea and spends the winter in the North Atlantic. The puffin is known for its colourful beak, which is also well suited to catching the sand eels it finds when it dives into the sea for food. The puffin can dive to depths of up to 65 metres and can stay under for a minute and a half at a time.
