Icelandic Birds - Raven
The raven is a passerine, and the largest one found in Iceland. It is a resident bird and common all over the country. It nests in May and into June; the nest is called a "laupur", and into it the raven gathers all sorts of things, then usually lines it with wool and feathers. The raven is almost omnivorous: it eats berries and carrion, for instance, and hunts other birds for food. Much has been written and sung about the raven. In Norse mythology Odin's ravens are named Huginn and Muninn. By day they flew across the world, and in the evening they returned and told Odin what they had seen.
